Creating a Grammar Teaching Video for a Flipped Classroom

Hi everyone. Today, I will be writing about the grammar teaching video we created with my friend Simge. Its topic is “Simple Past Tense” and it’s for high school preparatory class yet it can be adapted and used in different levels.

In my previous post, I shared the vocabulary teaching video we created with my friend Simge. If you wonder what’s flipped classroom, please check my previous post as it includes a short explanation.

To create this video, we did Zoom sessions and prepared the necessary materials. We shared everything equally. For information and examples, we used the prep-class students' book assigned by our teacher.

Then we started creating the video using “Powtoon”. Premium membership prices are too expensive, it has a free version that has very limited features. It provides a 4-days premium trial that provides no extra features at all. In the beginning, it was a bit complex but it had a lot of features and nice designs. What a nice site to create videos! Then, we saw that the free version doesn’t let us put 2 different audio files in the same scene and adjust time and voices. Moreover, it has a 3 minutes video limit and doesn’t allow downloading the video. Must be a joke! I am not going to use Powtoon ever again unless I have to and I definitely do not suggest it. Here comes Windows Photos! We downloaded scenes as images and created a video in Windows Photos. Windows Photos may lack some advanced features but it’s definitely a nice program to edit videos basically.

After the video, we created a worksheet using Canva. Canva is a useful site that allows you to do a lot of nice designs without having to pay.

It was a nice and fun experience for both of us and we are going to use the flipped classroom in the future. You can see the video and the worksheet below.

That's all I'm going to write. Don't forget to check my friend Simge's Blog! She has a lot of useful posts. Thank you for reading, stay tuned for more and more educational content!
